Smart AI Helps Make Roads Safer in Woburn

In this article, you’ll discover:

  • How Woburn is using smart tech to stop traffic jams.
  • Why drivers will spend less time waiting at red lights.
  • The way city workers fix signals without leaving their desks.
  • How this plan keeps walkers and bikers safer too.

We have all been there. You are sitting at a red light, tapping your fingers on the steering wheel, waiting for it to turn green. The worst part is when there are no cars coming from the other direction. It feels like a waste of time.

Well, if you live in Woburn, Massachusetts, those days might be ending soon. The city is doing something really cool to help drivers get where they need to go. They are using a new AI system to fix traffic jams and make the streets safer for everyone.

Eyes on the Road

NoTraffic - Solve your traffic needs with a single platform powered by state of the art technology.

Woburn is teaming up with a company called NoTraffic. They have built a special platform that acts like a smart set of eyes for the road. Instead of traffic lights just running on a timer, this system watches what is actually happening.

It sees how many cars are waiting and can change the lights in real time. This means less waiting at empty intersections and smoother rides when traffic gets heavy. John Corey, the City Engineer for Woburn, is excited about the change.

“With remote access to our Traffic Signal Controllers we can make real-time adjustments without cumbersome trips to individual intersections,” Corey said. “All resulting in smoother commutes, reduced delays, and a more efficient traffic system that benefits everyone in our community.”

Fixing Lights From Anywhere

One of the best parts of this new tech is how it helps the people who work for the city. Usually, if a traffic light acts up or needs a change, an engineer has to drive a truck out to the intersection and fix it manually. That takes time and costs money.

With this new system, city workers can log into the Front Panel from their computers. They can fix issues or adjust the timing without ever leaving the office. This saves tax dollars and lets the city fix problems much faster.

Growing With the City

Woburn is getting bigger, and more people means more cars. The city knew they needed a plan that could handle all that growth. This AI system is flexible. It does not just help cars. It can also help buses, bikes, and people walking cross the street safely.

It is great to see cities using technology to make daily life a little bit easier. Nobody likes traffic, so anything that helps us spend less time in the car and more time at home is a win in my book.
