How Smart Tech is Making Water Pumps Better and Cheaper

In this article, you’ll discover:

  • How smart computers are making water pumps cheaper to run.
  • Why the old building method wastes both time and money.
  • How new software tools stop clogs in dirty water systems.
  • Where to test this new tech for your own projects.

Have you ever thought about how much energy it takes to move water around? Pumps are everywhere, but they use a huge amount of power. Finding ways to make them run better is a big deal for our planet and our wallets. That is where a company called Advanced Design Technology, or ADT, steps in. They are using smart computers to build pumps that save energy and cost less to run.

To understand why this is such a big step forward, Prof. Mehrdad Zangeneh explains, “Small data set inverse design based ML allows the pump industry to solve complex multi-objective problems efficiently. Our 2026 Initiative brings this unique tech directly to pump designers.”

The Big Energy Problem

For a long time, making a good pump was a tough balancing act. Engineers had to guess a shape, test it, and see if it worked. This old way takes too much time and costs a lot of money. Plus, if a pump is not built perfectly, it wastes power. Since energy makes up most of the cost of owning a pump, even tiny upgrades can save serious cash and help the environment.

A Smarter Building Method

ADT uses a special software tool called TURBOdesign Suite. Instead of the old guessing game, this software uses something called 3D Inverse Design. This means engineers start with the final goal in mind. They tell the computer exactly what they want the water pressure to do. Then, the computer figures out the perfect shape for the pump blades to make it happen.

To make things even faster, ADT added Machine Learning. This smart tech helps engineers test many different ideas on a normal computer without spending a fortune on heavy testing.

Handling Dirty Water

One of the hardest jobs for any system is moving dirty water. Wastewater often has solid pieces in it that can cause a bad clog. With the new ADT software, engineers can tell the computer the exact size of the solids the pump needs to pass. The software then creates a 3D design that stops clogs but still runs with high efficiency. It is a perfect match for modern city plumbing.

See It In Action

Are you looking for a pump design software? If you build pumps and want to see how this works, ADT is offering ways to learn more. You can set up a test drive with their team to try it yourself.
