Dr. Hassan Abdalla Wins Big Engineering Award for New Safety Tool

By Uros Seth Nikolic, Editor in Chief, CompanyGlance.com

In this article, you’ll discover:

  • How a simple safety tool won the 2025 Harold Ensign Engineering Award.
  • The smart hose cover that makes pumping gas secure and fire resistant.
  • Why Dr. Hassan Abdalla built this new invention to fix hidden gas station dangers.
  • How a quick QR code on the pump can save you money inside the store.

Have you ever stopped to pump gas and noticed how dirty or worn out the fuel hoses look? Sometimes they even have cheap, unsafe ads taped right to them. It is a small detail most of us ignore. But Dr. Hassan Abdalla saw a real problem that needed fixing. He decided to invent a smart solution to keep us all safe at the pump.

Dr. Abdalla is the creator of KeeperX. He recently won the 2025 Harold Ensign Engineering Excellence Award for this brilliant new invention. He shared his thoughts on this huge win:

“KeeperX was developed to address long-standing safety and engagement gaps in fueling environments, and it is an honor to see the innovation recognized at both national and international levels.”

Exclusive Q&A with Dr. Abdalla

To understand how this tool is changing the game, we asked Dr. Abdalla a few questions about his exciting work.

Seth: What originally inspired you to tackle these issues and create KeeperX?
Dr. Abdalla: “I noticed that these hoses are constantly exposed to harsh weather, friction, and operational stress. At the same time, fuel stations are evolving into modern retail spots. I realized there was an opportunity to improve the safety protection of fueling hoses while providing a cleaner, modern interface.”

Seth: What are the biggest hidden safety challenges the public might not know about?
Dr. Abdalla: “One of the biggest hidden challenges is simply long term wear. Another issue is that the fueling area often becomes a place where operators attach temporary materials such as promotional wraps. These can introduce materials that were not originally designed with fire safety in mind.”

Seth: How did you balance strict fire safety standards with modern features like QR codes?
Dr. Abdalla: “Safety was always the primary priority. The protective sleeve uses certified fire resistant layers. Once the safety layer was established, the outer structure was designed to allow a controlled communication surface. This enables features such as QR codes to be added in a safe and structured way.”

Seth: With testing planned for military and aviation, how will this evolve?
Dr. Abdalla: “KeeperX was designed as a protective overlay that requires no modification to existing equipment. The innovation is completely made in America. Before using a fuel hose, an operator can scan the QR code to log basic information like fuel quantity. This creates a lightweight digital record without requiring additional hardware.”

What Exactly Is KeeperX?

KeeperX is a special cover made for fuel pumps and heavy duty hoses. It is built to be totally fire resistant, which adds a big layer of safety when you are filling up your tank. But it does more than just protect the hose.

Dr. Abdalla designed this cover to be useful for the everyday driver. The sleeve has a safe spot for store branding and an easy QR code. You can scan this code with your phone while you wait for your gas to pump. It gives you quick access to store discounts and special deals. It is a win for safety and a win for your wallet.

Fixing A Hidden Danger

The idea came to Dr. Abdalla when he noticed a scary trend. Many gas stations were putting normal, unsafe papers and ads right next to highly flammable areas. Plus, everyday weather was ruining industrial hoses over time.

He knew there had to be a better way. His new sleeve fixes the safety issue by using proper fire safe materials. It also cleans up the look of the gas station, making everything appear neat and modern.

Bringing Home Top Prizes

The National Petroleum Management Corporation gave him the Harold Ensign Award during a huge industry event near Washington, D.C. This award is named after a famous engineer, so winning it is a massive deal in the energy world.

But the praise did not stop there. KeeperX also took home a Global Recognition Award for great innovation. Dr. Abdalla was even named a finalist for a top leadership award in the Middle East. People all over the globe are seeing the value in his clever design.

What Happens Next?

Right now, the KeeperX tool is ready for real testing. Gas stations, military bases, and airports are lining up to try it out. It is exciting to see how one simple observation can turn into a tool that protects people all over the world. The next time you grab a gas nozzle, you might just be holding this award winning invention!
